When a windshield has to be replaced
Not every crack means a new windshield, but some do. Replacement is the right call when:
- The crack is longer than about three inches, or the chip is larger than a quarter
- The damage sits directly in the driver’s line of sight, where even a clean repair leaves slight distortion
- The crack reaches the edge of the glass, where it will keep spreading under body flex
- There are multiple chips clustered close together
- The damage has penetrated both layers of the laminated glass
- Contamination has already settled into the break — dirt and water in a chip prevent the resin from bonding
If you’re not sure which side of that line your damage falls on, send us a photo. We’ll tell you honestly, and we’d rather repair it.
How the replacement works
1. Photo or phone quote.
Send us the year, make, model, and a photo of the damage. We identify the correct glass, including whether your vehicle needs a rain sensor, heated wiper park, acoustic interlayer, or camera bracket.
2. We schedule around you.
Home, work, or job site — no mobile charge.
3. Removal and prep.
The old glass comes out, the pinch weld is cleaned and primed, and any corrosion is addressed before new glass goes in. Skipping this step is the most common cause of leaks and wind noise months later.
4. Installation.
OEE-quality glass set with industry-standard urethane adhesive.
5. Safe drive-away time.
The urethane needs to cure before the vehicle is crash-safe. We’ll tell you exactly how long to wait — it varies by adhesive and by temperature and humidity, which matters a great deal in South Louisiana summers.
6. ADAS recalibration if your vehicle requires it.
Handled in-house, same visit.
About the glass we use
We install Original Equipment Equivalent (OEE) glass — manufactured to the same specifications as the glass your vehicle left the factory with, meeting the same federal safety standards, without the automaker’s logo and the markup that comes with it.
Insurance
We’re a preferred shop with all major carriers and we bill them directly. Most comprehensive policies cover glass replacement subject to your deductible. Bring us a claim number, or call us and we’ll help you open the claim.
Your warranty
Every replacement carries a lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. If it leaks, whistles, or the moulding lifts because of how it was installed, we make it right at no charge.
